body pillow + sick days

Over this past weekend, we purchased the Leachco Back N Belly Chic Contoured Body Pillow from Buy Buy Baby. We’d been talking about investing in one for a few weeks, and since I’m really starting to show, we thought now was a good time.

First and foremost – it’s huge! When I carry it around, it feels like a giant life-vest. When I’m in the middle of it in bed with a blanket over me, I feel like I’m in a fort, surrounded by pillows. It’s kind of fun.

It’s definitely taken some getting used to though. If I want to switch sides, I have to wake myself up, pick myself up, put the bottom half of the pillow between my legs, put my arm under the pillow, and then rest my head. Unfortunately, I’m normally a “back sleeper,” so sticking strictly to my sides is a challenge for me.

On Monday morning, I also developed a cold. I’m not one to get sick often – I’ve been very blessed that way – but this pregnancy must have changed my immune system because this is my 2nd time getting a cold within 3 months. A friend told me once that some women have colds their entire pregnancy (I reject that in Jesus name!!!), but I’m pretty sure I know where this lovely little inconvenience came from.

I’m a “if I get too stressed, I’ll make myself get a cold” kind of person. Have been since high school. It’s my bodies way of telling me to slow down and chill out. Being pregnant has just made that “stress level meter” much lower than normal.

All that to say, I have NOT been sleeping well at all. I wake up exhausted and it takes me forever to fall asleep and I wake up multiple times throughout the night. It’s getting old really quickly, but I’m sure I’ll get some relief soon. At least, I hope so.

This morning, I woke up and was determined to get a hot cup of tea (I’m actually on my 2nd cup right now 😛 ), a healthy and nutritious breakfast (hahaha yeah right – do you see the picture below!? This is actually the most unhealthy food I’ve had all week. You should have seen what I ate that last 4 mornings straight. It was very similar to THIS but instead of sliced bananas, it was sliced strawberries. Yum yum yum!!!!), and the word of God.

Ever since the Freedom Conference, I have completely fallen in love with my Bible. Freedom taught me that God desperately desires a relationship with me. He’s relentlessly pursuing me just in order to be able to spend quality time with me. It’s a truth I could never grasp until recently. Ever since then, my Bible is opened daily and it’s full of highlighted verses that bring me such joy and comfort! I told Aaron the other day, “I love highlighting in my Bible!” haha it’s such a funny sentence but it really is something that makes me smile. Plus, I love opening my Bible for a lesson and seeing a verse I highlighted.

Psalm 27:4-5 • “I’ll contemplate his beauty; I’ll study at his feet. That’s the only quiet, secure place in a noisy world, the perfect getaway, far from the buzz of traffic.”

So even though I’m sick, pregnant, trying to get ready for a wedding this weekend (I’m photographing it) + a trip to Seattle (don’t even ask me how much laundry I need to get done before our flight 😉 ) – if you need me, I’ll probably be sitting on the couch with a cup of tea in my hand and my Bible by my side.

And with that, my 2nd cup of tea is gone…. I think it’s time for another refill 😉
