21 days of prayer – week 3

Every morning (Monday – Saturday), there is a 10minute message prior to our time of worship + intimate prayer and I love taking notes during this time and being able to share them with you. I hope you can gleam something from them.

Monday || 8.22.16 - Bubba Massey

 

There is a lot to be thankful for.

1 Thessalonians 5:18 ~ “give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”

Philippians 4:8 ~ Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.”

Ephesians 5:20 ~ “always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

Giving thanks in prayer helps us to remember that God is good and always in control.

Being thankful helps 3 things:

  1. Physically
  2. Emotionally
  3. Spiritually

I’m thankful that God is always moving, even when I can’t see it.

 

Tuesday || 8.23.16 - Chris Erwin

God can fix anything.

2 Corinthians 1:8-11 (MSG) ~ “We don’t want you in the dark, friends, about how hard it was when all this came down on us in Asia province. It was so bad we didn’t think we were going to make it. We felt like we’d been sent to death row, that it was all over for us. As it turned out, it was the best thing that could have happened. Instead of trusting in our own strength or wits to get out of it, we were forced to trust God totally—not a bad idea since he’s the God who raises the dead! And he did it, rescued us from certain doom. And he’ll do it again, rescuing us as many times as we need rescuing. You and your prayers are part of the rescue operation—I don’t want you in the dark about that either. I can see your faces even now, lifted in praise for God’s deliverance of us, a rescue in which your prayers played such a crucial part.”

Prayer Works!

How do you pray when you’re broken?

  1. Don’t trust yourself
  2. Pray with expectation

 

 

Wednesday || 8.24.16 - Brandon Isbell

 

Matthew 18:19-20 (MSG) ~ ““Take this most seriously: A yes on earth is yes in heaven; a no on earth is no in heaven. What you say to one another is eternal. I mean this. When two of you get together on anything at all on earth and make a prayer of it, my Father in heaven goes into action. And when two or three of you are together because of me, you can be sure that I’ll be there.””

Have you ever gone through something difficult/uncertain, but you knew in the back of your mind that you had people who had your back?

Exodus 17:9-13 ~ Moses said to Joshua, “Choose some of our men and go out to fight the Amalekites. Tomorrow I will stand on top of the hill with the staff of God in my hands.”

So Joshua fought the Amalekites as Moses had ordered, and Moses, Aaron and Hur went to the top of the hill. As long as Moses held up his hands, the Israelites were winning, but whenever he lowered his hands, the Amalekites were winning. When Moses’ hands grew tired, they took a stone and put it under him and he sat on it. Aaron and Hur held his hands up—one on one side, one on the other—so that his hands remained steady till sunset. So Joshua overcame the Amalekite army with the sword.”

This verse paints a picture of what it’s like to stand beside in prayer.

Who’s arms has God asked us to hold up today? To stand with them and to help them win their battle.

How can we pray for others:

  1. Help them to sense God’s presence. Psalm 16:11 ~ You make known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand.”
  2. Help them see God’s power. Romans 8:37 ~ “No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.”

 

 

Thursday || 8.25.16 - Blake Cotter

 

Have I ever been frustrated that my prayers haven’t been answered yet?

Luke 18:1 ~ “Then Jesus told his disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and not give up.”

Matthew 20:30 ~ “Two blind men were sitting by the roadside, and when they heard that Jesus was going by, they shouted, “Lord, Son of David, have mercy on us!””

Make a choice to stand in obedience – not letting the crowd influence us.

 

Friday || 8.26.16 - Jimmy Bowers

 

What we focus on throughout the day really does affect our prayer life.

Philippians 4:8-9 ~ Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.”

Paul is connecting our thoughts to our life to our prayer.

An unfocused mind can break your faith.

Keep your eyes on Jesus!

2 Corinthians 10:5 ~ “We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.”

What is fact is not always truth.

 

 

Saturday || 8.27.16 - Chris Hodges

 

Ephesians 6:18-20 ~ And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people. Pray also for me, that whenever I speak, words may be given me so that I will fearlessly make known the mystery of the gospel, for which I am an ambassador in chains. Pray that I may declare it fearlessly, as I should.”
