christmas 2020

I had intentionally planned Christmas Eve day (12.24.20) to be empty to allow for a relaxing, no-stress day.

Ha. Yeah right.

Although it was slower than the previous days, it included a last minute run to WalMart which was eventful and exactly what I didn’t want to do. I told the girls as we pulled into the parking lot “okay girls, it’s extra busy today. So we’re going to be quick to obey and have a joyful attitude. And Mommy will try to be quick and have a good attitude as well!” hahaha we got in and out with what we needed and headed back home for a simple dinner and play before Aaron came home from work.

Once he arrived, it was time for our Christmas Eve traditions!

Out of all three girls, Rylie was the only one willing to let me photograph her dress in front of the tree. Emmaline, meanwhile, was perfectly happy jumping on the couch and Paisley was walking all over the place.

Eventually, we got them in front of the tree (joyfully! haha).

Because Paisley was unwilling to stand still, Aaron ended up putting her behind the tree and having the big girls smile as we waited for Paisley to make it next to them to snap the picture.

We did this several times but the photo turned out great! πŸ˜‰

We wrapped up the evening with a Christmas Eve gift (jammies), a Bible Story + a family polaroid.

Christmas Day (12.25.20) I woke up and got started on a new cinnamon roll recipe I wanted to try. I had never made cinnamon rolls from scratch before so I was excited to try them.

Aaron joined me not long after to get going on our breakfast (since the cinnamon rolls were going to be a mid-morning snack).

The girls were not too far behind us and the gasp of wonder as their eyes set on the tree was precious.

Both Rylie and Emmaline helped us make breakfast & set the table. After our delicious meal, we let the girls open a couple presents. Specifically the one we knew would capture their attention for a while – new magnet tiles πŸ˜€

They were all quick to build multiple masterpieces including a tower, dinosaur, boat and more.

My cinnamon rolls turned out magnificently and I definitely plan on making them again! Once I nail down the Shaver Crew adjustments, I’ll share the recipe but in the meantime, you can check out the original here.

By 1pm, Aaron’s family started to trickle in and at 4pm the adults got to open their gifts while the girls opened the rest of the theirs.

The remainder of the evening was spent hanging out, playing and cooking a steak dinner.

We all went to bed late but we sang “Happy Birthday Jesus!” before we tucked the girls in. Overall, it was an excellent day.
