pioneer day

My mother-in-law asked if we wanted to go to the Pioneer Museum of Alabama and oh my gosh, am I so glad we went!

The girls are Little House on the Prairie obsessed (me too honestly) and I was so excited to get to expound even further on that slice of history that we all enjoy.

I pulled our best pioneer clothes (because I’m extra like that ;P), and Aaron walked out of the bedroom saying, “I tried to match your vibe.” hahahahaha.

I packed a lunch for us and we were on the road around 8am (it was just shy of a 2-hour drive one-way).

It was so much fun and my heart was smiling the entire time we were there.

We started on the inside of the museum which had staged displays. It was fascinating but we also had to have a quick reminder chat that we look with our hands at our sides or behind our back and do not go under the rope hahaha

Once we were done inside, we toured the property full of old buildings.

We took our time, which was beautiful. We walked around, peeked in windows, picked wildflowers (or weeds… I’m not sure which haha), raced on the bridge, just let the breeze guide us and that was part of the beauty of the day.

Our timing worked out perfectly because just as we had finished seeing everything, our tummies started rumbling.

We grabbed our lunch basket (again, extra ;P) and sat at a picnic table while we chatted and enjoyed the spring breeze and the tree swing.

The fun didn’t end when we drove away. We got home and spent the remaining hours of the day outside, picking more flowers, enjoying the breeze and the sunshine.

Seriously, this day still makes me smile when I look back on it. It was such a happy day with lots of smiles, laughs and simplicity – all of which are near to my heart.
