the foster care & adoption system is broken

I was scrolling Instagram when I came across this post by Goods & Better and they worded something I have struggled to write so beautifully, I’m basically copying & pasting.

“The system is broken.”

We’ve heard it. We’ve said it. It’s true.

But we must remember that before the broken system comes the broken family. And families are broken, because people are broken. You and me and “them.”
All of us.

The bad news must precede the good news, the best news:

Jesus died to save broken people. Jesus loves broken people.

And we mirror this Jesus when we love them, too. We mirror this Jesus when we leave our comfort to step into another’s brokenness. We mirror this Jesus when we see brokenness and are moved to compassion and action. Because this is what He has done for us.

The fact that the system and its people are broken is the VERY REASON we engage it.

Following Jesus will always lead us to the broken, because that’s who He came for.

He came for them. He came for us.

Wow. Mic drop.
