an intentional summer

Can I be honest? Our world is kinda crazy right now. It can be scary, uncertain and emotionally consuming. My prayer is that during this time you wouldn’t leave your family in the dust but you would still keep fun, adventure and laughter throughout these days.

I wanted to focus on the idea of having an intentional summer. I believe now more than ever we need days to be full of fun, laughter + joy with our kids & families.

Proverbs 21:5 says, “The plans of the diligent lead surely to abundance.”

With all the crazy going on, whether you have kids or none at all, let me help you do a little light planning so you can find an abundance of fun and joy this summer!

How will you be intentional with your family this summer?

I know it can be super overwhelming to think about all the things, plans, and dreams we have for summer, but having a plan can really help us.

Do you already have plans this summer?

The Shaver Crew’s calendar currently has:

  • an anniversary stay-cation for Aaron & I to celebrate 6 married years
  • at-home VBS style church event for the girls
  • a couple big church events we’ll be attending online
  • an online work convention
  • + playdates, tribe activities and more

You by no means have to create a schedule – unless you’re into that kinda thing. But I find having a loose outline helps keep my days moving along with structure & provides lots of wiggle room.

Some fun activities to stay intentional are:

  1. Thankful list
  2. Picture a day
  3. Writing down your favorite moment of the day. Just one sentence.
  4. Connecting activity with your family & with each member separately
  5. Bucket list

What is one activity you want to do? That I just shared or you just thought of.

And lastly, I want to talk about taking a break for you. It is so important, but I know it’s hard. Even if your kids are past “quiet time” age, try to set aside some time to reset the day.

Here are some thoughts for ways to keep your kids busy while you rest:

  1. Fun quiet time baskets with special books, toys, activities, snacks.
  2. Only books
  3. Screen time
  4. etc.

What is one thing you love to do when you’re alone? What refills you? (Time with God, nap, journal, social media, calling a friend, etc.)

I hope you set aside some time and really dive into these questions and think about what you want to be your family’s focus this summer.

Have a good one! 😀
