About a week ago, I was reading my Bible and I decided I wanted to make a list of Bible verses for me to read while I’m in labor. The goal is that reading + speaking God’s word during this time will be encouraging and give me supernatural strength.
So I did some research and digging of my own and found 15 verses that I feel like can apply to labor.
As we know, God’s word is alive & active, and although I read these verses in the context of “when I’m in labor,” that does not mean that is all they can apply to. These verses can be applied to so many circumstances, and I encourage you to speak them over your life and whatever situation you may be facing that require God’s presence and His supernatural, all powerful strength.
{all verses are from The Message version}
“Don’t panic. I’m with you.
There’s no need to fear for I’m your God.
I’ll give you strength. I’ll help you.
I’ll hold you steady, keep a firm grip on you.” -Isaiah 41:10
“Because I, your God,
have a firm grip on you and I’m not letting go.
I’m telling you, ‘Don’t panic.
I’m right here to help you.’” -Isaiah 41:13
“God makes his people strong.
God gives his people peace.” -Psalm 29:11
“My grace is enough; it’s all you need.
My strength comes into its own in your weakness.” -2 Corinthians 12:9
“Don’t fret or worry. Instead of worrying, pray. Let petitions and praises shape your worries into prayers, letting God know your concerns. Before you know it, a sense of God’s wholeness, everything coming together for good, will come and settle you down.” -Philippians 4:6-7
“Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me.” -Matthew 11:28
“So let’s not allow ourselves to get fatigued doing good. At the right time we will harvest a good crop if we don’t give up, or quit.” -Galations 6:9
““When a woman gives birth, she has a hard time, there’s no getting around it. But when the baby is born, there is joy in the birth. This new life in the world wipes out memory of the pain.”” -John 16:21
“If you don’t know what you’re doing, pray to the Father. He loves to help. You’ll get his help, and won’t be condescended to when you ask for it. Ask boldly, believingly, without a second thought.” -James 1:5-6
““Be strong. Take courage. Don’t be intimidated. Don’t give them a second thought because God, your God, is striding ahead of you. He’s right there with you. He won’t let you down; he won’t leave you.”” -Deuteronomy 31:6
““Before I shaped you in the womb,
I knew all about you.
Before you saw the light of day,
I had holy plans for you”” -Jeremiah 1:5
“”Don’t be afraid of a soul.
I’ll be right there, looking after you.”” -Jeremiah 1:8
“God’s strong hand is on you” -1 Peter 5:6
“Why would you ever complain, O Jacob,
or, whine, Israel, saying,
“God has lost track of me.
He doesn’t care what happens to me”?
Don’t you know anything? Haven’t you been listening?
God doesn’t come and go. God lasts.
He’s Creator of all you can see or imagine.
He doesn’t get tired out, doesn’t pause to catch his breath.
And he knows everything, inside and out.
He energizes those who get tired,
gives fresh strength to dropouts.
For even young people tire and drop out,
young folk in their prime stumble and fall.
But those who wait upon God get fresh strength.
They spread their wings and soar like eagles,
They run and don’t get tired,
they walk and don’t lag behind.“ -Isaiah 40:29-31
“We pray that you’ll have the strength to stick it out over the long haul—not the grim strength of gritting your teeth but the glory-strength God gives. It is strength that endures the unendurable and spills over into joy, thanking the Father who makes us strong enough to take part in everything bright and beautiful that he has for us.” -Colossians 1:11-12
