books i read in january 2021

After a long hiatus of not reading, I decided to make it a discipline in 2021. I’m glad (& semi shocked) to say by making just a few tweaks to my routine I found time to read three books AND listen to two audio books within the month of January.

I’ll share the Amazon links to the books in case you want to grab your own copy, but check your libraries (free!) or local used book stores (typically extremely discounted).

To Hell With The Hustle by Jefferson Bethke

This was a great book to kickoff a new year. He spent a lot of time exposing the toxicity of our culture’s “normal” and gave some wonderful insight on how their family has specifically chosen to combat it. I enjoyed this book and found some key things to take away and apply to our own family culture.

The Brave Learner by Julie Bogart

A homeschooling book that has been on my reading list for a while. Although not everything she recommended or shared fits our family’s [homeschooling] style, I found myself loving her creative prompts and made a list of things to do with the girls based off what was shared in this book.

Call of the Wild + Free by Ainsley Arment

Sadly, this was a library rental. I say “sadly” because if I owned this book I would have underlined, highlighted and marked so many things! Between explaining the various styles of homeschooling (since I was homeschooled I was able to read more about what style my parents chose for me, and, consequently, had many thoughts on what served/didn’t serve me well in that style. Seeing what style I had chosen for my own family was fun too in addition to reading the variety people can choose from), quotes / citings and sharing countless ways to adapt to a Wild+Free mindset, I found myself engrossed & strongly recommend this book to any and every homeschooling parent.
