homeschool curriculum + schedule – 2020

There are a ton of options when it comes to curriculum & you really need to find what works best for your family. You’ll see below that our curriculum this year is a hodgepodge from all different places – thrift store finds, Usborne Books & More + The Good & The Beautiful.

Below I share what we’re doing for Rylie (Pre-K) and Emmaline (Preschool)

Rylie

We’ve got a few areas we plan on focusing this school year for our sweet almost-4-year-old. For starters, I chose The Good & The Beautiful for our core curriculum and we will grow with them as our kids get older.

There are lots of curriculums out there, so let me tell you why I chose this one.

First of all, it’s Christian, which was really important to us.

I also wanted something that didn’t require a lot (if any) prep work on my end. This curriculum has a sentence or at most a paragraph explaining what I need to instruct for my child.

This makes it one book, verses other companies I found that had a book for the parent and another workbook for the child.

It also was super cost friendly. I looked at some other Christian curriculums and it was over $150 for just the parent’s guide. Uh, no thanks. I got this curriculum for under $50 and I am thrilled. It’s one book + activity extras. ๐Ÿ˜€

And finally, I did some research on the older grades and I really loved the flow and content I saw. I specifically loved that with science they offer ways to include all grade-levels. PRAISE!

Another area we’re going to be focusing on this year is telling time.

We’ll be talking about what we’re currently happy about + write one thing we learned that day.

I’m also using this AWANA Sparky book as a guide to get more toddler friendly scripture in our faces so we can memorize one verse each week.

The Wreck This Journal is just a tool to get creative and do silly things.

We’re also going to be teaching a general overview of money and why / how we use it.

Emmaline

Emmaline will be doing similar Preschool work that we did with Rylie this last year, focusing on learning and understanding words, letters, numbers, colors, shapes and pen control. We will also be doing choosing one thing we’re happy about and one thing we learned + memorizing Bible verses.

Schedule

Schedule wise, I’m really loose. Intentionally.

I want to take some time and see how our days naturally flow. We will always start our learning day with writing in our happy books (what is bringing us joy) and our Bible verse for that week.

Then we’ll move on to The Good & The Beautiful curriculum. My goal is to do 3 lessons a week, so if we finish that work early in the week, we will move on to Money & Time.

I really want to cater to & follow her interests.

If that means we just play with the clock all day, then that’s what we’ll do.

Learning will be fun! That’s my goal.

Finally, we will conclude every day with writing in our happy books something that we learned that day.

Some days we’ll hang with friends, go on a field-trip, go to the library, etc. My children are way too social to not interact with people on a regular basis haha.

We are gearing up to officially start tomorrow (8.13.20) and I am pumped. Can’t wait to share our first day with you guys.
