let’s get specific and stop saying this…

“Let me know if I can help!”

I’ve often made this statement and have been on the receiving end of it (just recently in fact), but usually it can feel vague, leaving us (me) uncertain if our offer will be accepted. Surely you’ve offered this and your help was never requested. I personally have a hard time finding ways to let people help, so general statements like “let me know if I can help!”, even though I’m incredibly thankful, I will likely not take you up on it.

So, let’s get specific! Let’s offer things like:

+”When is a good night for me to bring dinner?”

+”Would today or tomorrow work for me to watch the kids, giving you some alone time?”

+”I’m getting coffee; can I bring you anything?”

+”What are your kids’ favorite snacks? I’ll drop them in your mailbox.”

Let’s all get proactive, giving families choices so they can truly benefit from our help.

This call is for everyone, but I’m particularly thinking of those in these situations:

  • Families who have just welcomed a baby
  • Moms solo-parenting while their husbands are out of town or deployed
  • Those who have lost someone close, either through death or divorce
  • Individuals living alone
  • Empty-nesters / the elderly
  • And anyone else facing unique challenges

Let’s turn our good intentions into meaningful actions and make a difference in the lives of others!
