why you need a bucket list – 2018

For some, summer is full of rest before the busyness of the school year and holidays commence. It can be a wonderful time to recharge and get a fresh vision from the Lord. In this spirit, our pastor preached a message on Dreaming Again and it really got my wheels turning and I wanted to share it here on the blog.

These notes are from the sermon Pastor Chris gave at the beginning of July 2018. To listen to the message, click here.

There are 5 types of people:

  • You Have No Dream

You’re in survival mode. Life is mundane.

Ask God to change that. Prayer is not informing God of our reality, it’s our opportunity to see God’s reality.

  • You Have a Dream, but it’s Not a God Dream

You were designed to have more than just a job.

Compensation will give you something to live on.

Calling will give you something to live for.

  • You Have a Dream, but it’s Fading

It’s probably died out because it hasn’t happened.

  • Vague Dream

It’s a good dream, but it’s not specific enough.

It’s crucial to write it down!

HABAKKUK 2:2 – “And then God answered: “Write this. Write what you see. Write it out in big block letters so that it can be read on the run. This vision-message is a witness pointing to what’s coming. It aches for the coming—it can hardly wait! And it doesn’t lie. If it seems slow in coming, wait. It’s on its way. It will come right on time.”

Having it written down can make you do it!

  • The Right Kind of Dream

God-honoring

It’s not for our fame, but so we can hear “well done [your name]. Well done good and faithful servant!” when we get to Heaven.

Culture-defining

Don’t let those who say your dream can’t happen stop you.

Heaven-impacting

My life’s work needs to show up in Heaven.

Seemingly-impossible

It feels daring. Like jumping out of an airplane without a parachute. The dream is so big and impossible that God has to show up for it to come true.

So over the month, I’ve been thinking about my bucket list, but I haven’t written it down. I’m a visual person and PC (Pastor Chris) said it needs to be in front of you, so I thought it would be so fun to make a board on Pinterest titled “bucket list” and post photos of what I want to do. I absolutely love having it in this visual way.

If you want to see my list so far, you can check it out by clicking here.

So what about you? Do you have a bucket list? I’d love to hear an item or two.
