nature day forest school – ants

Ants are probably one of the most annoying bugs to me (mosquitoes being number one), but I know they add a lot of value to our earth. Today at Forest School we focused on learning about these insects and a high altitude of their way of life.

After our lesson, we transitioned to our first activity where the kids had to carry something awkward on their back like an ant (who can carry 20times their weight… it’d be like us carrying a fully grown cow or a car). I encouraged them to go home and do this same activity with them crawling on all fours.

Snack was ants a log (which I knew would get mixed reviews because celery isn’t always loved) but the kids seemed to go for it some and it created some fun convos for the parents.

Our other activity was building an ant with nature (rocks and twigs specifically). This was fun because the kids really had to study the ants body.

And, of course, our book stack was rich and had several kids sitting to read them.
