nature day forest school – deer

This was our first day of our Winter Unit +

our first Nature Day gathering of 2024!

Our focus this unit is WINTER ANIMALS. Each week we’ll strive to understand the general characteristics of each animal (appearance, habitat, diet, etc), identify their tracks, be able to define some terms & build some other general skills in addition to nature play.

After our lesson, it was onto snack. This is easy to throw together – just grab graham crackers, peanut butter, chocolate chips and pretzels.

Our activity today required more hands-on from the parents than usual, but I think everyone enjoyed it.

The class had to forage for sticks and then come to our pallet board to get painting directions.

Each child got a 8×10 canvas (which was perfect material, weight and even had designated spots on the back to write names). After they painted their deer and sky, they glued on their antlers.

The remainder of our time together was spent playing and chatting. I’m very excited for our upcoming unit and all the other Winter Animals we get to study together.
