our favorite kid book library picks – part one

Books is something I really wanted my kids to treasure! Even when Rylie was an infant, we gave her books, read to her, let her play with them, etc. and I truly believe all my kids love for books and stories now is connected to the fact that we make books / stories a priority in our home.

When we moved to our new city last year, it took me a few months to find a rhythm with our local library visits, but now, we’re there every week and it’s a highly anticipated day by all of us.

I started keeping a list of those library finds that I just loved! You know, the ones you’d be willing to purchase because they’re just that good. So here’s my list from the first quarter of 2022. Either search for them at your local library or get the off Amazon because, for real, they are worth it!

so you want to build a library

this story is adorable and so creative. I loved the imagination, priority of the wonder and magic books hold and the illustrations are phenomenal!

There is no better place in the world than a library. Especially a library that kids create! A million stories high? Sure. Bathtubs? Absolutely. A full-service sundae bar? Of course. Everything is possible in this library―just like in books! The author does a beautiful job celebrating libraries and the joys of reading.

birds of the air

I loved this book! It’s set against the backdrop of Jesus’ baptism.
At the start of the story, several birds hear that God’s Spirit will descend on Jesus in the form of a bird, but no one knows which bird. Immediately, they begin to compare themselves, boasting about why each should be God’s symbol—the peacock for his beauty, the eagle for his strength, and the parrot for his smarts. But the dove, the least impressive bird of all, has more in common with Jesus than the other birds realize.
Told in thoughtful prose with a fable-like quality, Birds of the Air will capture the imaginations of children, ages 4-8, while highlighting that God sees the hidden value in each of us and chooses the least likely among us for His great purposes.

the signmaker’s assistant

This book was full of jokes that kids think are silly and adults think are hilarious! this young assistant is left in charge and create havoc in the town as he creates all kinds of signs that the townspeople willingly follow. It’s a great read and will give you a good chuckle!

while you were napping

a hilarious and likely accurate description of a young boy who is walks out all the things he is convinced he missed out on while he was napping – including robots, pirates, astronauts, and more!

tickly octopus

this book is sweet. Octopus thinks she’s only good at one thing, which not everyone enjoys. after causing an accident and determined to make it right, she learns that she has other talents as well. we loved that this story highlighted that we all have many talents and can thrive when using them.

seeds and trees

Words are powerful. They can hurt or they can heal.

this book revels the power of words. It explores their effects on feelings and emotions. And it does so through the journey of two different seeds.

the circus ship

When a circus ship crashes and leaves a bunch of circus animals lost, they find themselves on an island and soon win over the wary townspeople with their kind, courageous ways.
