rylie || 3 1/2 years old

I did a fun little update for our oldest at 1 1/2 and 2 1/2, so why not add 3 1/2 too πŸ˜‰

Rylie is officially 3 Β½ years old today, and I thought it would be fun to do a little update on how our oldest girl is doing and some impressive milestones she has hit since her birthday in November.

I have loved having a 3-year-old. It is such a fun age. We can have real conversations with her and I love hearing her rendition of the day. Rylie is transfixed with stories and really gets into books and movies. She loves to play-out the tale, pretending to be the characters and all.

Food:

Rylie definitely has favorites. Cereal for breakfast, snack, lunchmeat and cheese for lunch, snack and dinner she prefers cold. Even if it’s supposed to be a hot dinner, she’ll ask for cold rice or cold soup. Popcorn (with M&M’s) is her favorite treat.

She’ll drink water, but her favorite is Mama’s lemonade (from Chick-Fil-A or a restaurant), sweet tea or juice.

Rylie really likes to help me bake and I find it a great opportunity to teach her about measurements and counting scoops.

Sleep:

Her bedtime routine starts at 7:15/7:30 and the goal is for mama to be closing the door at 8 pm but her and Emmaline usually stay up for a while past that. She’s usually up between 7:15 am and 8 am – always running at mock-100 and starving. “Mama, I want breakfast!” is the first thing she says πŸ˜›

Life:

Just like we noticed when she was a baby, Rylie loves being outside πŸ˜€ Rain or shine.

She likes walking, running, playing in the backyard, parks and jumping in rain puddles.

Rylie is such an incredible big sister, and we compliment her often. She loves to help me with Baby Paisley and Emmaline is her bestie.

She absolutely loves learning. Of course, her stamina for book-work is a little low but she enjoys it and I can see certain things clicking in her brain.

She can count to 20-something pretty well and she’s excellent with her colors. Shapes are a work in progress and we’re working on her alphabet. She’s great at recognizing certain letters, like R πŸ˜› She just learned how to write her name too.

Of course correction and disciple are still a thing but she’s learning and that’s what’s important.

Her current favs are How to Train Your Dragon and Spiderman (of course Woody and Buzz still have a special place in her heart as do any Pixar character). She loves playing with my childhood dollhouse and anything pretend.

Rylie is emotionally sensitive and cares very deeply for others. Physical touch is so incredibly high we’re constantly being smothered in hugs and kisses.

Me:

My big-little-helper. She is so much fun. It’s hard to remember when she was a baby like Paisley, but she still loves being held and thrives on one-on-one time. She likes to tell me stories and I try to say “yes” more than I say “no” when she asks me to play with her. I’ll admit I’m working on that part, as I find myself saying “not right now” more.

I look at her and find myself seeing a little lady more often than I see a little girl. She’ll be 4-years-old this Fall and I cannot believe it. It pushes me to soak up every moment, take the pictures, be fully present and say “yes” more than I say “no.”

Also, writing this made me realize I need a one-on-one date with my oldest girl again. It’s been too long!
