One thing I really enjoyed about springtime last year was our themed days (you can see what we did here – week one & week two). Since Rylie finished her Pre-K bookwork ahead of schedule, I brought the fun back for weekly themes this spring – starting with bugs & bees.
I’ve got a lot of links for you today so you can duplicate whatever catches your interest π

To kick off the week & get the girls excited for what was to come, we watched Magic School Bus – Bugs, Bugs, Bugs & Bugs Life (but I also really wanted to watch The Bee Movie so we might snag that to watch ;). To accompany the fun, our snack was bugs in dirt (or chocolate pudding with sour gummy worms) π so fun & yummy!
As for learning, we did Bees – Same and Different Sorting Activity which gave the girls a chance to practice cutting on line, gluing & identifying.
We also did this “What Number Is Missing” which was great! Rylie does a wonderful job identifying 1-9 but once we get into the double digits it gets a little shaky (even though she can count high, reading them is different), so I really wanted to focus on those bigger numbers.
I rented some books from the library and they were huge hits (requested to be read multiple times a day every day). I’ve listed them below so you can snag them yourself (whether through your local library or Amazon – they’re all pretty affordable and definitely worth it!).
- Curious George. A home for honeybees
- The Honeybee Man
- Bee & me
- Little kids first big book of bugs
- The Magic School Bus presents insects
- The life and times of the honey bee
Truthfully, I really enjoyed this week. We all learned things about bees and it created constant conversation about how honey is made, what the bees outside are doing and more.

If you’re interested in finding a toy to go along with the fun, I found this Clamp Bee to Hive Matching Game – a wooden sorting puzzle designed for 2-4 year olds.
