On SATURDAY (3.11.17), I celebrated my birthday with some good friends of ours – Vien & Kristen.
We’ve been hanging out with them on a regular basis growing in relationship and having fun at their house with their 4 year old son and almost 2 year old daughter. They’ve been great friends to us since last summer, but it wasn’t until just recently that we’ve gotten to see them on a more regular basis – and we love it!
When my birthday came around, I asked if they’d want to go on a double-date (no kids), and they were 100% on board. We both got babysitters and carpooled to the one thing I had specifically said I wanted to do – BREAKOUT BIRMINGHAM!
I was the only one out of our little group that hadn’t done it before, and since it was my birthday, they let me pick. The Kidnapping one sounded interesting, so that’s what we did.
Somehow, we got the idea that it would just be the 4 of us trying to escape, but when we arrived, we were paired with a mom, her daughter, and her daughter’s friend (both of whom looked to be 10 or 11 year old). We were hopeful they’d be good teammates, but unfortunately, that was not the case.
I’ll spare you the details – mainly because it’d mean a long blog post but also because it was hard for any of us to be positive about it, so I’ll just say this ::
- it was frustrating
- it was annoying
- we would have gotten out a good 15 minutes earlier if it was just us
But we broke out and now have great inside jokes.
Dinner and a late movie followed, and we yawned our way home.
Overall, it was a very fun evening hanging out with our friends that we consider family!
