Since Emmaline could walk, we’ve noticed her ability to balance, tumble (intentionally) and recently, summersault. I kept putting off the idea of gymnastics, but the thought would not leave my brain. An acquaintance of ours owns a gymnastics, cheer and tumbling gym (which also happens to lease a section of their building to the new church we’re attending), so after some emails back and forth and a few months on the waitlist, Emmaline was accepted into their 3-year-old class.
I told her on Monday (10.18.21) and she was ecstatic! The next 48 hours was a mix of living life and Emmaline asking when her class was haha when Wednesday (10.20.21) finally came we surprised Emmaline with a gift.
A friend of mine’s daughter goes to the same gym and had outgrown a couple leotards which she generously gave to Emmaline. I wrapped these up for Emmaline to open to help build the excitement. She was hyped and thankful.
We ate breakfast, got ready and headed out to “nastics” as she calls it π
We got there early to get settled. She maintained her excitement but, as I expected, my sweet Emmaline’s emotions shifted from anticipation to fear right as class was starting. I saw her face change and tears filled her eyes but the teacher was incredible and encouraged Emmaline enough that Emmaline quickly got into the lesson.
After class, Emmaline came out dancing with joy as she recanted the lesson to us. She even hugged her teacher and said “thank you!”
Her teacher smiled and said, “she did great! has she done gymnastics before?” we shook our heads and she said, “wow. well she is very good!”
We couldn’t agree more and I wouldn’t be surprised if we just signed up for the next 16 years of our life for Emmaline’s activity.
So excited for this precious girl to have an activity all her own and to watch her grow and develop even more in this skill.
If you want to watch bits of her first class (+ me telling her the big news & all her sweet commentary), here’s an episode π
