“we’ll always be there for him”

Back in June 2018, I shared Rylie’s first experience playing with my childhood dollhouse (which finally gave Aaron some satisfaction for hauling it in our cross-country move when we had no children haha). But since we moved to this house in December, it’s been a core part of our playroom.

“Mama, do you want to play dollhouse?” is a daily question from 3-year-old Rylie, and lately, I’ve gotten a lot better at saying “absolutely!”

It has been such a joy to watch all three of my girls play with this 90’s toy. I have so many memories playing with these exact same objects and the more I see my girls play with them and play with each person, I am reminded of all the times these toys were so alive to me.

Not going to lie, I 100% think of that Toy Story 3 scene where Woody is convincing the other toys that being put in the attic is a good idea and he says, “because one day, if we’re lucky, Andy will have kids of his own.”

“And he’ll play with us then, right!?” -Rex

“Well, we’ll always be there for him.” -Woody

Rylie’s imagination in particular gets me every time ๐Ÿ˜› Her characters are typically falling off the roof (with no broken bones I might add… magical) or swimming in the pool.

I actually started getting dollhouse toys when I was 2 1/2 as a big sister gift when my brother was born, so this has literally been in my life for 24+ years. Telling Rylie “this was my toy when I was your age” brings a face of shock and pure joy on my sweet daughter’s face. And I’m here for it. All. Day. Long.
