“Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out…? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest.”
– Matthew 11:28
Today, I want to talk with you guys about rest. To be honest, I’ve been exhausted lately. I love my life, but it is full and tiring. My days are full of keeping the house, taking care of Rylie, and every evening has an event of some sort. Even though I’m a SAHM (stay at home mom), I don’t ever seem to get a chance to rest.
So what do we do when we’re constantly going and desperate for a break?
Like I said before, I love my life. I have an outstanding husband, a gorgeous baby girl, school has been phenomenal, I’m growing relationships, church is outstanding, Aaron loves his new job and we’ve started a new business. But I’ve been exhausted lately.
It’s been a hit or miss when it comes to Rylie sleeping through the night lately, and I’m the one who gets up with her (mainly because I’m the only one who hears her). I also get up with Aaron at 6:15am and while he gets ready for work, I go down to the kitchen and make him breakfast and put together his lunch. As soon as he walks out the door at 7am, Rylie wakes up and immediately needs to eat. After that, I get her ready for the day and then lay her on her activity mat to play while I get in my Jesus time. From there our day is non-stop. Chores, trying to grow Shaver Closet and taking care of Rylie all takes up the majority of my day and before I know it it’s 4:30pm and time for me to start dinner. By the time our evening plans are over, and Rylie is asleep and no longer needing my attention, Aaron is way asleep and I pass out as soon as my head hits the pillow. I get 8ish hours of sleep and then it starts all over again.
Needless to say, I’ve been exhausted the last few days. Physically and also with all the other things going on in my life. And the devil has had no problem playing off of my exhaustion. Last night, I was so fed up with him I told him (out loud) to leave me alone!
I’m sure you have things going on in your life that is draining you. I encourage you to find your rest in God. With a 4 month old, a working husband, a full time business + school and life, the concept of “rest” has become foreign to me. So I have to be extra intentional of finding my rest during my morning Jesus time.
Is there a 15 minute break in your day where you can immerse yourself in the presence of your Dad (God)? Even just 5 minutes can make a drastic difference. Also, making it a priority to accomplish Your 5 everyday can make your days more restful and enjoyable as well.
If you can, take a Sabbath! It’s a day off from the busyness of life. It doesn’t have to be Sunday, and you don’t have to sit on the couch all day and stare at the wall – if you feel refreshed after doing yard work, by all means DO IT! You can hang out with friends or you can sit and watch Netflix or read. Whatever fills your cup – that’s a Sabbath.
It’s crucial to find time to rest and recharge. I urge you to make even a moment of rest a priority!
