adoption cost – money breakdown

We’ve been pretty open about funds throughout our journey and you guys have been so generous! You’ve helped us pay for legal requirements, home studies x2, our consulting firm’s fee x2 and so much more.

Up to this point, every case we received had a different dollar amount, so it was hard to answer the question “how much do you need.”

Now that we’re matched – we know exactly what we need… we need (roughly) $95,000.

Understandably, $95,000 sounds like a ginormous ask for an adoption – especially when you hear of adoptions that are around $35,000. The short answer is –

Every agency and state has a different cost and includes different things.

For our situation, in addition to the agency costs, our mama’s agency includes her birth costs (whatever her insurance doesn’t cover), travel to and from the agency and her prenatal care, housing, food, etc.

To remain fully transparent, we wanted to share the cost breakdown so you know exactly where the money is going.

Money Breakdown

$79,700 – this is agency fee, providing income to all the people who help bring completion to families. You’d be amazed how many different people we’ve interacted with and each has a very intentional job that’s pivotal to our experience going smoothly and mom + baby getting the best care.

It also covers:

  1. Travel for Mama
    • travel to and from the agency she is working with
    • going to doctor appointments
    • etc.
  2. Medical
    • prenatal visits
    • labor & delivery costs
  3. Living Expenses
    • everyone wants a healthy baby, so this provides good food and other necessary things for the day to day.
  4. Housing
    • a safe and clean environment
    • utilities
    • etc.

$10,000 (roughly) – to help us cover:

  1. Medical costs for Baby Boy
  2. Our legal costs for adopting Baby Boy

$5,300 (buffer) – which would go towards any unexpected costs or overages, the cost of traveling to get Baby Boy, food, formula, necessary baby items, etc.

If you have any other questions about the cost of our adoption, please feel free to reach out to us.

Otherwise, you can donate through Venmo/CashApp – sarahmshaver OR keep an eye out for intentional fundraisers.
