Although I had already gone through the Freedom curriculum / conference back in 2016, I felt the need to go through it again now that I was in a different season of life and I had different topics I wanted to settle in my heart. I joined a group with girls that were in their 20’s and went through the course work – doing the homework every week and attending most of the small group meetings (I’ll admit that I missed a couple…). The conference, where you wrap up your Freedom experience, was scheduled for early December, but when it unexpectedly snowed, the conference was postponed to January. It fell on the first weekend following the launch of 21 Days of Prayer & Fasting, which we all felt was no coincidence.
Personally, I walked in very expectant that God was going to do a great work – not only in freeing me from my own battles, but also for every single person attending. The first night was full of worship and 2 sessions where we covered 2 different topics, replaced the lies with truths and then received prayer to confirm them. We all went home energized and a little lighter then when we walked in.
The pastors who were leading the conference encouraged everyone to attend the 9am prayer service before the sessions kicked off at 10:30am. I was excited to go and be there live (since I watch online every morning) and it was a great way to start the day. It was followed by 3 sessions before we got lunch. After those who were not fasting got their nutrients, we concluded the conference with 3 more sessions before ending on a powerful note and being dismissed.
I am so thankful for the work God did in my heart during those 24 hours. When I walked into our first small group meeting in September, I had a list in my head of what I wanted freedom from, and I feel like God helped me settle everything on that list and then some. He also encouraged me in a couple areas I’ve been praying about throughout this first week of 21 Days of Prayer & Fasting so that was comforting as well.
The ladies in my small group are amazing and I am so thankful to have been a part of this journey with them!
