one-on-one dates with the girls

It’s been a desire of my heart to do one-on-one dates with the girls on a regular basis, but with Aaron’s ever-changing work schedule it’s been hard to find a way to consistently spend one-on-one time with each of the girls. But with Baby Boy coming shortly, and knowing my time would be consumer with him for a while, I really wanted to make it a priority – so here is a recap of what I did with each of the little ladies in my life.

Paisley’s Date

Paisley’s date turned into an overnighter when the big girls unexpectedly stayed overnight with Papa in GA while picking up pine straw for the business. So this girl got to enjoy lots of solo time, in which we ran some errands, played, sang, danced, read and did lots of snuggling.

She won’t be the baby for much longer & she’s completely clueless as to what is (& who is) coming, but she’s still my sweet (+ loud, determined and silly) Paisley.

Rylie’s Date

Rylie’s date started off with martial arts but the whole drive there she was continually telling me how excited she was to be having a mommy date and what she wanted to do after class.

Our first stop was Claire’s. Emmaline had received some play-jewelry during Nana’s visit and Rylie had been patiently requesting some of her own. So we stopped by and she carefully selected a few pieces including bracelets, rings, a necklace and hair clips.

From there she selected Chick-Fil-A for her dinner so after we got our food, we parked so we could enjoy our picnic meal together.

While we ate, I asked questions like:
+what are you most excited for about the baby? (her answer: meeting him)
+what makes you happy? (her answer: watching movies & playing with Emmaline – not Paisley because she doesn’t know how to play properly.)
+what’s your favorite thing about yourself? (her answer: my eyes. But I wish they were pink. I like blue though too.)
+what do you like most about —-?

We did lots of giggling and I was in constant awe of the little lady that is growing up oh so quickly right in front of my eyes.

We ended the evening by stretching out the window while Mommy drove on the dirt road to our house.

It’s been a desire of my heart to have one on one dates with the girls on a regular basis, and this evening with Rylie only emphasized that desire even more so.

Emmaline’s Date

We snuck out after quiet time for a little time together and she was so excited! I asked her what song she wanted to listen to in the car and she asked for the same two over and over again (Jesus Loves Me & Try Everything). Whenever I looked in the rearview mirror, she was dancing and moving her mouth to the words <3

We started with going to WalMart and going some grocery shopping that needed to get done, but I also let her pick out a wallet all her own to keep her real money in (it’s my version of a piggy-bank).

From there we drove across the street and got ice cream at Chick-Fil-A. Because the dining area was closed at that location, I sat in the back with her while we chatted. I asked her questions like:

+what makes you happy? (ice cream)

+what movie is your favorite to watch? (ZooTopia) why? (because of the bunny. and it talks!)

+are you excited to have a baby brother? (yes! and I won’t eat him.)

Girls’ Date

It had been on my to-do list for weeks, and I finally found a day where I felt good enough to get it done – a strawberry patch trip!

It was a gorgeous day and the big girls did a great job loading up their buckets (Emmaline was the best though… not going to lie).

Paisley mainly just ate them though…

Once we had packed all three buckets, we played on their makeshift playground for a few minutes before heading back home for lunch (which of course included lots of strawberries 😉 ).

I am so glad I was able to get a date with all three of the girls before Baby came! It makes me so happy and only motivates me more to make it a regular thing.

Do you go on one-on-one dates with your child(ren)?
