This unit of Nature Day Forest School is all about GARDENING. We’ve focused on planning your gardenseeds and bees. This week we learned about worms.

Our lesson was the most hands-on lesson I’ve ever done – thanks to the book “This Is a Book to Read with a Worm” by Jodi Wheeler-Toppen. We searched for worms in a bucket that I filled with dirt (the worms are from Walmart) and then brought them over to our lesson blanket where we went through the book to learn more about our new friends. I was so proud of the kiddos and how brave they were to touch the worms!

After our lesson, we went over to the table with our worms and made them a home.

I had mason jars, little rocks, compost (scraps from a veggie soup I made the other night) and dirt. I also had the kids forage for a couple leaves to tear up and put at the top before dropping in their worms.

Snack was a favorite “dirt + worms” which always makes the kids laugh. Just chocolate pudding with gummy worms and smooshed graham crackers.
