usborne book :: that’s not my… series

I know a lot of this has to do with Rylie’s age, but I’ve noticed that she is drawn to the same books over and over again. Most of the time, she pulls out an Usborne Book (her other go to is Daniel Tiger). But I feel like it’s part of my job as a mama to foster that excitement for reading, and having the right books on hand makes a huge difference!

My kids may be young, but they’re really interested in books and I’m passionate about building our home library and having some amazing books for my kids to have at their fingertips! Usborne Books + More has been an amazing source.

With hundreds of options, it can be easy to feel overwhelmed by the catalog and not know what books are the best for your unique child. So today I thought I’d share with you the very first Usborne books that Rylie ever got and has been a favorite since day 1.

That’s Not My… series

Rylie got her first That’s Not My… book when she was 5 months old, and it’s been a favorite ever since. Since then we’ve collected 7 more, totaling 8 from this series. I’d love to collect all 30+ someday.

They are touchy-feely books which helps a child learn what the word means (bumpy, soft, rough, etc.), how to say and read a word. Each page describes something about the thing (bumpy, shiny, fuzzy or rough). These books also help develop sensory and language awareness. They are the perfect size for their little grabby hands, and super easy to carry around. I keep That’s Not My Puppy in the car and Rylie flips through it and touches each page while sitting in her car seat. I’ve put one in her little backpack before too for easy entertainment at a restaurant or waiting room. The cover is padded and soft and the pages are thick and durable. And Usborne Books + More has an amazing replacement policy. I never worry about losing out if the baby destroys the books because you are able to get a new one for half off if you want to replace it. Awesome!

There is a little mouse on each page too, so right now I try to say, “Where’s the mouse? There he is!” and as she gets older, I know she’ll be like to find it herself. Speech Therapists use these books to help facilitate language! I’m taking their advice and using these hardcore!

The series is filled with so many fun titles and I definitely have more on my wish list. What is your child’s favorite thing? Or what is your nursery theme? I can almost guarantee there is a “That’s Not My…” book that would match.

These are also great books for themed gifts! I included “That’s Not My Bunny” into Rylie’s Easter basket this year. And talk about a great book to gift mama-to-be for her new addition.
