thanksgiving 2020

This year for Thanksgiving, we decided to drive up to Illinois to spend it with Aaron’s grandma. Rick rented an Air BnB and it was the perfect spot for all of us to stay during our trip.

On Thanksgiving day, Rylie helped Amberlyn (Aaron’s sister) set the table. Amberlyn is a wedding planner so she has crazy skills and made even the garage look like a Thanksgiving wonderland.

I was very intentional to snag our family photos before we got too far into the day to avoid any meltdowns or ruined outfits.

Throughout the day we snacked, watched Christmas movies and rested before diving headfirst into food prep.

The rest of the evening was the typical Thanksgiving routine – eat, feel stuffed, pack up the leftovers, clean the dishes and head to bed.

Friday morning started off with Michelle and Rick teaching the girls how to lay coins on the nearby railroad track so they would get flattened. “IT’S SQUISHED!!!!” was a popular statement throughout the day from these happy little girls.

The grandkids (Aaron, me, Amberlyn and Ryan) took G’ma out for lunch at her favorite restaurant. It really was delicious and we all agreed if we lived in the area, we’d visit it more often.

On the way back to the house we stopped at a couple gorgeous murals and took photos.

Afterwards, Michelle, Amberlyn, the big girls and I headed out and ended up at an antique store which was really a hodgepodge of random items collected from various estate sales an old gentleman had been storing for decades and was selling. Michelle, Amberlyn and I all found some treasures there, but I’ll brag and say what I snagged for $40 lists for $310 on Amazon…. needless to say I’m very proud 😉

G’ma went back to her place early Saturday morning and we rolled out at 8:40am to head back home.

After 3 stops, we pulled into our driveway at 5:30pm. I fed the girls and tried to get as much energy out of them as I could while Aaron unloaded the van. By the time we all went to bed, we fell asleep instantly.

Overall, it was a good trip and I’m so glad we were able to spend some time with G’ma and celebrate Thanksgiving with her.
